Licenses

Bu içerik henüz dilinizde mevcut değil.

Every library linked into Ren'Go and its licence. Keep this current as dependencies land. LGPL parts and anything needing a licence check are flagged.

App Store description must carry an LGPL notice and link to the full list at renpy.org/l/license (Ren'Py's iOS guidance).

Engine and runtime (from renpy-8.5.3-renios and renpy-7.8.7-renios)

Section titled “Engine and runtime (from renpy-8.5.3-renios and renpy-7.8.7-renios)”

Each engine is linked into its own embedded framework (RenGoEngine8, RenGoEngine7, decision 0006). Both ship the same component set except the Python runtime, assimp (8 only), and the OpenSSL version.

Component Licence Notes
Ren'Py engine (librenpy, librenpython, Python tree) MIT Copyright Tom Rothamel and contributors.
CPython 3.12 (libpython3.12), CPython 2.7 (libpython2.7) PSF 3.12 in the 8.x engine, 2.7 in the 7.x engine.
SDL2, SDL2_image zlib
ZIPFoundation 0.9.19 (Swift package, app layer) MIT Copyright Thomas Zoechling. Zip reading and writing for the importer (M1).
PLzmaSDK 1.6.1 (Swift package, app layer) MIT, with the LZMA SDK (public domain) Copyright Oleh Kulykov. 7z reading for the importer, with passwords, progress and abort. Pinned to the commit of tag 1.6.1 (project.yml), because its Package.swift sets unsafeFlags that Xcode refuses for a package resolved by version.
Unrar.swift 0.5.4 (Swift package, app layer) MIT (the Swift part), unRAR licence (the bundled Cunrar target, unrar 7.23) Copyright mtgto (Swift) and Alexander Roshal (unrar). RAR reading for the importer. See "unRAR licence" below.
FFmpeg 4.3.1 (libavcodec, libavformat, libavfilter, libavresample, libavutil, libswscale, libswresample) LGPL Version 4.3.1 in both engines (the 8.5.3 and 7.8.7 renios packages link the same version), verified 2026-10-21 by strings on libavformat.a in prebuilt7/release/ and prebuilt8/release/ (Lavf58.45.100) and the version = "4.3.1" pin in renpy-build's tasks/ffmpeg.py. Relinkable requirement: linked so it can be relinked. Since decision 0006 it is statically linked into the engine frameworks with its symbols hidden, so the route is a written offer for the object files (or the unsigned engine frameworks), the build scripts, the entry source and the library versions, delivered with the relink page (closed 2026-10-21).
FreeType (libfreetype) FTL or GPLv2 Ren'Py uses the FTL option.
HarfBuzz, fribidi 1.0.7 MIT / LGPL (fribidi) fribidi is LGPL: same relink requirement as FFmpeg. Version 1.0.7 in both engines (the 8.5.3 and 7.8.7 renios packages link the same version), verified 2026-10-21 by strings on libfribidi.a in prebuilt7/release/ and prebuilt8/release/ ((GNU FriBidi) 1.0.7).
libpng, libwebp, libjpeg-turbo, libavif, aom, libyuv BSD/MIT-style
OpenSSL 3.3.2 (libssl, libcrypto, 8.x engine) Apache-2.0
OpenSSL 1.1.1s (libssl, libcrypto, 7.x engine) OpenSSL/SSLeay dual licence BSD-style with an attribution clause: the acknowledgement must appear in the app's credits. Done 2026-10-21: it is in the Acknowledgements screen and in the acknowledgements page.
zlib, bzip2, lzma, brotli permissive
libffi (libffi) MIT
assimp BSD-3 8.x engine only.
MetalANGLE BSD-style (ANGLE) Embedded framework, one copy (8.5.3's) shared by both engines.
Component Licence Notes
renpy-mobile recipe (adapted) MIT See the acknowledgements page.
XcodeGen MIT Project generation (dev tool, not shipped).

Fetched by scripts/ios/fetch_fonts.sh into vendor/fonts/ (checksum-pinned) and shipped once in the app bundle. They supply fallback glyphs for translated text (decision 3 of docs/milestones/M3-plan.md). The OFL 1.1 text for each font ships in the app's acknowledgements.

Component Licence Notes
Noto Sans CJK SC Regular (NotoSansCJKsc-Regular.otf) SIL OFL 1.1 16.4 MB. Fallback glyphs for Chinese, Japanese and Korean text in translated output.
Noto Sans Arabic Regular (NotoSansArabic-Regular.ttf) SIL OFL 1.1 272 KB. Fallback glyphs for Arabic text in translated output.

The Cunrar target of Unrar.swift is the unRAR source code (version 7.23), which is source-available, not open source. Ren'Go uses it only to extract RAR archives that the user imports. It never creates a RAR archive and never re-creates the RAR compression algorithm. The licence (license.txt in the package, read from the resolved checkout on 2026-10-16) allows extraction in any software without charge, and requires the following paragraph, in full, in the licence text or documentation of a package that distributes modified unRAR source (Ren'Go distributes it unmodified, and carries the paragraph anyway):

UnRAR source code may be used in any software to handle RAR archives without limitations free of charge, but cannot be used to develop RAR (WinRAR) compatible archiver and to re-create RAR compression algorithm, which is proprietary. Distribution of modified UnRAR source code in separate form or as a part of other software is permitted, provided that full text of this paragraph, starting from "UnRAR source code" words, is included in license, or in documentation if license is not available, and in source code comments of resulting package.

The package's remaining terms: the copyright in RAR and UnRAR belongs to Alexander Roshal. The software is distributed "as is" with no warranty, and the author is not liable for data loss, damages or loss of profits. Installing and using UnRAR signifies acceptance of the terms. Ren'Go does not modify the unRAR source. The paragraph above also belongs in the app's Acknowledgements screen and in the acknowledgements page.

  • LGPL compliance (FFmpeg, fribidi): closed 2026-10-21 (M4 plan decision 5). Route: Ren'Go publishes a written offer, in the app's Acknowledgements screen and in the acknowledgements page, for the object files (or the unsigned engine frameworks), the build scripts, the entry source and the library versions needed to relink, on request for three years from the contact address. The instructions are the relink page, delivered with the offer: the engine packages are Ren'Py's public renios downloads, pinned by checksum, and a user replaces the FFmpeg or fribidi archives in prebuilt<N>/release/, rebuilds the framework, and re-signs the app with their own certificate. The OpenSSL 1.1.1s attribution (7.x engine) is now in the app's credits.
  • unRAR: licence check done 2026-10-16. Extraction in any software is allowed, creating RAR archives is not, and the paragraph is reproduced in "unRAR licence" above.
  • Live2D Cubism (ENG-7): proprietary. Licence check before shipping.
